The Importance of Community Support

The first few weeks after I found out about BII, I had a really hard time with bottled up feelings and emotions. I tried to talk to my boyfriend, but as supportive as he is, you can only hear about this stuff so many times. Not to mention, that if you aren’t in the depths of all this, it can be very hard to understand what we are going through.

I’m not a big participator in Facebook groups and such, but I’m learning to use them to my benefit while helping others. These women have been there or are currently where I am now. They know my secret fears without me having to say them aloud. They know the questions running through my head before I can even ask them.

I went to my first get together with girls from one of the local BII support groups on Facebook. It was really nice to meet them and put faces to names. It was nice to see people in person and hug it out. It’s important. Even if you are super confident in all of your decisions and have no fears, please do yourself a favor and join one of the many Facebook groups out there. If you don’t need help, help someone else. It feels good. It helps give all that you went through a purpose.

This is a picture of my very first meetup. I am eternally grateful to these girls. Only one of us has explanted, I had my surgery set, and the other two had just started their journey. Special thanks to Kim, who put this meetup together. She has a blog too, and you can see it here.

Thank you all, ladies!
